    Have you not asked whether Stone's claims are correct ? It is impossible to discover how he treated the antiquarian histories of English counties and the VCH, the feet of fines for Essex, Yorkshire and Leicestershire and the Close Rolls - the sources cited in The Crisis of the Aristocracy 1558-1641 in support of his claim about social mobility, the volume of land sales, etc. - and which were included and why from his works. Claims made when the evidence cannot be checked should not be accepted.
